Dyson Cinetic Big Ball Animal Canister
Dyson doesn’t need much introduction, they are known as leaders in modern-home technology. Founded in 1993, they’ve had a finger on the pulse of the market ever since. This vacuum cleaner has been on the market for a while and reports are that it is proving very reliable.
Well, I must say…it’s a beauty. You can tell just by looking at it, this is a very high-tech, sturdy machine. The majority of the machine is a cool silver, with bright red accents. The “Big Ball” is just that, a smooth, rounded sphere which corrects itself if it unbalances during use. The canister is transparent, which I like, as it can give you an idea of how full it’s getting (and it can be really satisfying seeing all the junk you are removing from your floors!). The top of the canister has visible Cinetic tips, which look like small cones, which are there to capture tiny dust particles and keep them from clogging the machine.
In terms of cleaning power, this model is certainly worth the price. It has a fairly standard 1400 watt power rating, but what makes it an exceptional cleaner is the technology used. The machine has 36 Dyson Cinetictips which take the microscopic dust (which would usual clog a bagged or filtered vacuum), and separates them from the other particles. In really simple terms, this means that the “clogging” particles are identified as soon as they enter the machine, and are tossed into the canister, to keep out of the way, ready to be emptied out.
There are no filters to clean, or bags to replace, as the machine sorts all of the particles into the canister with its own filter system. Because there are no blockages, the machine does not lose power, and cleans consistently. Both hard floors and carpets are equally catered for.
The cleaning head is high-tech as well. It is a “Carbon Fiber Turbine” head, which means it is awesome at picking up fine dust and dirt that gets wedged into carpet, and fine layers of dust that settle on hard floors. Note that this head is not motorized, but air powered. There is also another head included in the tool-kit, which is designed for hard-floor cleaning and has the ability to pivot in order to reach tricky places – which is great.
So how well does it clean pet hair? The main cleaning head sucks up pet hair with ease and this model comes with Dyson’s wonderful tangle-free turbine tool attachment, especially designed to remove pet hair from floors and furniture. The tangle-free turbine tool lets you really get rid of stubborn hair deposits, without the bother of detangling or cleaning out the head. The amazing suction and in-built filtration means that cleaning pet hair wont clog or slow down the machine.
Dyson has clearly thought really hard about the tricky issues that come up when vacuuming, and have offered some great solutions. I’m sure you’ve experienced the frustration of a vigorous cleaning session which ends up tipping the vacuum on its side, making you rush back and forth to help it upright again. I certainly have! This model is so clever, it topples all it likes but it never falls over. You can drag it all about the house, getting into all different nooks and crannies, and the machine will simply move with you. This gets a big tick from me.
The wand handle has a 360 degree, articulating design, which means it swivels and pivots as you go along, preventing you from having to unwind and twist the whole wand yourself. The cord could be longer, but it’s a small con amongst a range of impressive pros.
Each head is easy to maneuver and gets around table legs, chairs, and into corners easily. The body is free of hooks and “bits” that can get caught along the way. These small details all come together to create a really pleasant, user-friendly cleaning experience. Sometimes the dread of vacuuming is all down to the functionality of the machine, so perhaps this is the machine to make you love vacuuming?
While this model looks big and strong, it’s actually really easy to store. There is a special, concealed hook that the wand can attach to, so it can be stored neatly like an upright vacuum. The cord also has a rewind feature, so no winding and wresting with cords when it’s time to store the machine away.
One of the worst things about canister vacuums is the cleaning! Emptying bags and washing filters is not pleasant. Dyson has eliminated this chore by excluding filters and bags all together. To clean and empty this machine, you just need to unclip the canister, and tip it into the bin. You don’t need to make skin-to-dust contact with anything, as the canister is designed to eliminate all materials with a simple motion.
The Cinetic Big Ball has a 0.42 gallon capacity. Not particularly large but will handle a good, thorough whole-house cleaning session without having to empty half way through. Even if you did happen to have to empty it halfway through, it’s so simple and hygienic to empty, I don’t think you’d mind!
Due to the specialized cleaning heads and turbine technology, this machine is ideal for both carpet and hard floors. The primary cleaning head, as well as the attachments provided, are designed for all floor types, so there’s no need to be concerned about this if your home has lots of different surfaces.
The amazing tangle-free turbine tool sucks up animal fur and dander without getting stuck and entwined in the mechanism. And this tool works very well indeed.
There’s also a stair tool that allows you to clean the entire stair neatly, while tucking into corners.
You can either ruse the stiff bristle brush for removing embedded dirt and mess in your carpet fibers or a carbon fiber turbine headdesigned to give your hard floors a thorough clean
And last, but not least, there is the dog grooming tool – enabling you to give Fido the once over (assuming he’ll let you!) to clean up the loose fur before it even hits the floor.
This model has a HEPA filtration system, (which makes it ideal for asthmatics and those with allergies), but no traditional “filter” as you might be used to. As previously mentioned, there are no filters or bags to be changed, as the machine takes care of capturing and eliminating the dust itself. All you need to do is empty out the canister, reattach, then it’s ready for your next clean. No need to worry about dust or dirt escaping, this machine is very secure and tight.
Okay, this is not a cheap vacuum. However, if you have a new home with expensive floors, carpets and furniture, you want to make sure you’ve got a great vacuum you can trust to keep them clean. It’s the same old story; spend money to save money. By buying a cheaper machine that doesn’t give you all the benefits this one does, you’ll probably end up spending the same amount of money on repairs and extra tools.
Functionality and ease-of-use definitely make up for the price with this Dyson beauty. The mess-free emptying system will make a huge difference to your cleaning routine, as will the elimination of bags and dirty filters. The pet-hair tool, and general cleaning power of the primary tool will help you keep your home fur-free.
