With rave reviews and some impressive features, the Hoover LinxBH50010 Cordless Stick Vacuum would seem to be a great option for anyone looking for a good low budget battery powered cleaner.

What we love

  • Suitable for both hard floors and carpet
  • Edge-bristles to get into corners
  • Strong suction and clog-free, scatter-free cleaning
  • Powered Brush roll which can be switched on an off easily
  • Access into tight places such as beneath chairs and sofas
  • Lightweight

Could be better

  • Pet hair gets stuck in brush rolls. It does remove the hair from the home…but you’ll have to remove stuck hair from brush rolls with your hands
  • Non-HEPA filter

Hoover Linx BH50010 Cordless Stick Vacuum

I think it’s fair to say that Hoover is the most iconic name when it comes to vacuum cleaners. The product in question today is the Hoover Linx BH50010 Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner – a popular model with some impressive features.

Kerb Appeal

This model has a black, grey and red colour-scheme, which I like. The slender neck/handle and transparent dust-cup are great features too. You can tell by looking at the cleaning head that it has been designed to work hard; it has a tapered shape, sturdy wheels, and looks low enough to fit into tight gaps.

Cleaning Power

The Linx BH50010 uses Hoover’s own WindTunnel Technology and a poweredBrushrollinside the cleaning head, with its own motor. The WindTunnel system is designed to use strong airflow to suck dirt and debris straight into the machine without any fallout or scattered particles being left behind on the floor surface. The efficienttunnel is also designed to keep suction consistent, and eliminate clogging.

The powered Brushroll can be switched on in an instant, to suit hard and soft flooring. Another great thing about this cleaning head is the “edge cleaning” abilities provided by the bristles on the sides of the head. I like this feature, as it’s really annoying when there is a build-up of “hair and dust stuff” along the wall or skirting board and your vacuum cleaner can’t quite get to it!

In terms of pet hair, this model doesn’t supply any extra tools for this particular job. However, the cleaning technology used is great for cleaning pet hair. The suction is strong enough to lift hair and dander, while the brush really grabs on to anything it its path. The only thing is, you willmight need to give the Brushroll a clean-out when longer hairs get tangled up. If you have a pet with long hair you might want to look for an alternative stick cleaner

For upholstery and furniture, you’ll need a separate cleaner for this, perhaps a nice handheld for those smaller jobs? The Linx doesn’t come with any attachments for furniture, so it’s pretty much a floor cleaner through and through.

Usability

As this machine is cordless and bag-less, it offers some great user benefits. Not having to fuss with cords, outlets and bags does cut down on time and effort, which is a big drawcard for all cordless cleaners. It has a nice, light weight too, which means you can carry it upstairs and around the house without strain. Also, the handle is height-adjustable, so you can clean comfortably not matter how tall or short you are.

Hoover Linx BH50010 Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner Usability

The Linx has been designed for flexible-use when it comes to hard-to-reach places. The head has a low enough profile in order to reach under couches and chairs, so you can really get into those particularly dusty places we sometimes neglect if our vacuum cleaner can’t easily reach them.

Cleaning stairs shouldn’t be problematic, unless you have particularly narrow or small steps. Because the Linx is light, cordless, and has edge-cleaning bristles, cleaning steps should actually be pretty easy and effective.

As this model is nice and small, and can stand upright, storage is simple. This vacuum will fit neatly into any small space or corner, staying out of the way until you need it next! Just remember to keep the battery charged and you’ll be good to go.

Emptying the dust cup is simple; just remove it, press the button, and tip the contents into the bin. You will have to remove the foam filter and rinse it out with water and leave to dry. There will also be some hands-on maintenance required with the Brush roll and perhaps the inside of the dust cup too, as hairs and debris can get caught. These are the realities of most affordable cleaners though!

Capacity

The capacity is pretty good for a stick cleaner, in my opinion. However, if you’re looking for a vacuum that has minimal emptying and cleaning requirements, this isn’t the best choice for you. Hoover recommends that you empty the dust cup and give the filter a rinse after each use, in order to preserve optimum function of the machine. The cup is easy to empty, so it’s really not much of a hassle to empty it out after each use.

Floor Type

This model is suitable for both hard floors and carpet. Some reviews have noted, however, that it’s not so effective on particularly thick or shaggy carpet. If you have a mixture of short-fiber carpet, and hard floors, then you won’t have an issue with this choice. There are 2 settings, one for hard floors, the other for carpets, so you can quickly switch between them as needed.

Tools

The Linx doesn’t come with any extra tools, it’s a pure and simple model! If you are wanting an all-rounder model, then I’d go for something a little more comprehensive. However, if you want a machine to grab for quick-cleaning floor jobs, pet-hair deposits, and spills, the Linx is a good choice.

Of course, you do get a battery and a charger in the box.

Filtration

This model does not feature a HEPA filter, which is to be expected with a lot of low-cost vacuums. If asthma or pet-related allergies are not an issue in your household, this won’t be a problem. However, for those with asthma and allergies, I would recommend extending the budget slightly, so you can keep yourself safe and healthy with a HEPA-filtered vacuum, (especially if you have pets). The filtration system in this model is still good, especially if you keep the filters clean and dry.

Conclusion

This is a humble yet effective cordless vacuum cleaner. It will certainly do the trick for those who are looking for an affordable, simple, easy-to-store vacuum that can handle carpets, hard floors, and pet hair. As with all cordless stick vacuums, they aren’t the best choice for large homes with lots of cleaning requirements, as you will find you need to “empty and recharge”constantly.

If you have asthma or allergies, (especially if you have pets as well), bypass this one and go for a HEPA-filtered model. It might cost you a bit more, but it’s worth it when it comes to your health.

I would recommend this model for someone who wants a “starter” vacuum cleaner for a small home or apartment. If you don’t need something to clean your furniture and high-up surfaces, and just want a good floor-cleaner, then this is a great choice for you. You can always upgrade to a more comprehensive model later as your circumstances change. In which case, you can keep the Linx as your dedicated “spill cleaner” or quick-fix cleaner for busy days.

Right for you?

Sitick vacuums aren’t designed for full house cleans but if you have a small house or apartment and not too much upholstery to clean or you’re just looking for something to do quick spot cleans then the Hoover Linx is a good budget choice.
